Hippocrene Spring

Where Horses Inspire Us to Discover Our True Nature

You are here to enable the divine purpose of the universe to unfold. That is how important you are. Eckart Tolle

Throughout history horses have been associated with awakening humans to their true potential. Greek Mythology informs us that when the winged horse Pegasus struck the ground on Mount Helicon he released the waters known as Hippocrene Spring. This became a sacred place of reflection, inspiration, and creativity. Author, Angeles Arrien, writes that those who made the pilgrimage to Hippocrene Spring where they drank from the Source of Inspiration were endowed with extraordinary insight, heightened creativity, intellectual curiousity, inspiration, and joyful song.

At Hippocrene Spring, horses inspire us and gently guide us to awaken our true Self. Only when we understand our true nature are we are able to live joyfully and more fully.

Hippocrene Spring and the horses play an integral role in enabling us to discover our true nature. For when we gaze into a beautiful body of still waters we can see a reflection of our external Selves. But when we still our bodies and quiet our minds in the presence of horses they reveal a perfect reflection of our internal Selves. These magestic creatures have the innate ability to perceive and communicate that which is beneath the surface but still within each of us.

Horses have an uncanny ability to reflect a person's internal emotional state and reflect that back to them. Like the waters brought forth by Pegasus at Hippocrene Spring which became a source of inspiration, horses are wonderful conduits for inspiration and self reflection.

Our interactions with horses help us reestablish our connection  to our Self. Horses inspire us and awaken us to our potential so that we may experience ourselves, our relationships, and life more fully.

Herd News

A long awaited dream has manifested. Hippocrene Spring has relocated to Shingle Springs, California, nestled in the Sierra foothills, between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe, with beautiful pastoral views of the hills and pasture land.  Having the herd at home allows us to connect more closely with them at all times and to live more in tune with nature. It is truly special to live as one with the herd, and to engage with them in ways that were not possible before having them home.

"What a fabulous experience. I never imagined this could be so fulfilling. This weekend (workshop) has been a rich experience that I will carry with me into all areas of my life. This has been a wonderful gift to myself, and I thank you and the horses from the bottom of my heart."

"Cathryn, ...your great sense of compassion, your gentle ways, and your wisdom carried me through a very challenging time in my life. I came to you because of your counseling training but our ten weekly sessions with the horses brought me more insight than years of one on one therapy. I am so very grateful to have found you and your herd!! With deep appreciation."
